Adult Library Card
I. Qualifications
Readers aged 14 and above
II. Name of the Card
Shanghai library reader’s card: General Loan function
III. Location
Shanghai Library and district (county) public branch libraries

IV. Eligibility Requirements
1. Each reader can apply for one card only. Card is restricted to the usage of its owner only.
2. Personal identification
Please provide your own valid identification including: New-generation ID Card, Hong Kong-Macau laissez-passer (or Home Return Permit), Mainland Travel Permit for Taiwan Residents, Military ID or Passport (for Foreigners).  Readers under aged 14 are required to show his/her household register.
3. Certificate fee
Annual registration fee free, No cost of card, RMB100 for deposit.
4. Application
Fill out the application form of Reader’s Card at Registration Service Desk, choose the function of General Loan, read the agreement on the reverse side of the form and put down your signature. For non-Shanghai residents, please leave your telephone number and address in Shanghai. A self-service machine can be used to apply for the card in Shanghai Library.
5. Get the card
Shanghai Library and district (county) public branch libraries (You can get the certification in some basic-level service point immediately.)
V. Validity Period
The card is intended to be permanent.
VI. Card Cancellation
Bring the valid personal ID cards (necessary) or the deposit receipt (option) to cancel the reader card. Deposits (RMB100) will be refunded upon cancellation. The refund can only be handled in the very libraries that issue the card.
Considerations for Card cancellation

1. Before asking for the refund of the deposits, readers must return all the library books and facilities, as well as paying the compensation charges and overdue fines if necessary.
2. Readers must show valid personal ID cards and library cards when applying for refunding the deposit. When a second person is asked to apply for the refund, he or she must bring his /her ID card as well as all the items mentioned above to the library.
VII. Reporting the Loss of a Library Card / Replacing a Library Card
1. If you lose the card, you can report the loss at the Shanghai Library and branch libraries with your valid personal ID cards.
2. Readers should take full responsibilities for all violations of the library regulations occurred before reporting the loss of a card.
3. To replace a lost card with the General Loan function, you must bring your personal ID card or other valid IDs to the original library where you applied for the General Loan function on your library card. If you find the original card after reporting the loss, you can cancel the report to validate the card.
4. If the card was damaged, you can replace it.

III. Entitled Access
1. General Reading Function: Children are entitled to use the computers in the Children’s Library with reader cards.
2. General Lending Function:
Each library card entitles to a maximum loan of 10 books at a time for 28 days. Renewal can be realized online(http://www.library.sh.cn & http://www.mhlib.sh.cn/ )or on site for 28 days prior to the due date. A fee will be fined for overdue books.
